Seasonality, 2022
As I slowly emerged from a period of dormancy and reflection in my cultural organizing work, I was inspired by the writings of Robin Wall Kimmerer and Dr. Beronda L. Montgomery on the lessons we receive from nature and the unapologetic seasonality of deciduous trees. I believe we nurture the sustainability of both ourselves and our movements by habitually shifting from seasons of active engagement in mobilizing and organizing efforts, to reaping the benefits of power building, to stepping back, slowing down and reflecting, to emerging with new ideas and strategies for social change. This screenprinted bandana pays homage to the seasons, and all the nonlinearity of grief, reflection, emergence, and resilience.
This is my first hanky/bandana design for the Queer Ecology Hanky Project this year! Lovingly screenprinted by artist Grae Rosa. Exhibited at Zygote Press in Cleveland, Ohio from May 13-June 25, 2022, in a Queer Ecology Hanky Project exhibition curated by Vanessa Adams and Mary Tremonte. A limited number of 25 were printed and sold.
